The beautiful mute swan has white plumage and an orange beak with the distinctive black bump.
These large birds belong to the goose family; they prefer to live near lakes and ponds, where they eat aquatic plants and small animals. When searching for food under the surface of the water or on the bottom, they stick their head and neck down and their tail up. Swans shed their old plumage every year and new feathers grow.
