The mighty Cape buffalo raises its head and sniffs the air. With its black snout, it can smell with precision whether strangers are approaching the herd. The buffalo has a hard time deciding: Should it continue grazing, or should an enemy approach? If a strange buffalo tries to approach the herd, it does not hesitate. At a gallop, the buffalo attacks the uninvited guest, stops just before it reaches the stranger and lowers its large head. It snorts angrily and kicks the ground. Its enormous horns look so big that most uninvited guests immediately run away. So much the better!
