Here you can read about Magda, who can get her parents to do anything by saying "At home with mom I can always..." and "dad asks if you want..." She takes advantage of a small gap in her parents' communication and does it with charm and whimsy, so you can only smile about it.

And then there is the story of the boy who has two beautiful grandmothers. One is tall and has curls that look like gold, the other has short dark hair and smells of clay. Every Thursday he is picked up from kindergarten by his grandmother – or grandmothers. When his friend wonders about the situation, he is forced to think about whether it is something special:

“How can you tell the difference between them,” says Asle.
"Difference?"
“Yes, when they are both grandmothers.”
“I've never thought about that,” I say, thinking first of Grandma and then of Grandma.
“How do you do it then?” I say.
“Do what?”
“Do you know the difference between your grandmother and your grandfather?”

The dialogue between the two boys so beautifully captures the boy and his love for his grandmothers and the world's need to put him in certain boxes. It's a beautiful story both in text and in pictures.

What the stories in the book have in common is that they represent different family forms with love and naturalness but also humor. Because we must not forget Vitello, who gets a dad, the Egg Boy and something with a father who is a donut - and the other really nice stories in the book, but you have to read them yourself.
